Research: Volunteering leads to happiness levels comparable to a life-changing salary boost

Give Back and Get Your Happy On!  Harvard research, that’s right Harvard, shows that volunteers benefit from the “happiness effect” and leads to happiness levels comparable to a life-changing salary boost. This smart research also found that volunteering creates a positive, more connected, stronger community. Let’s hear it for the happiness effect! Take a look at three little ideas that make a very big difference not only for you but your community.

The Power of Giving Back: 3 Little Ideas That Make a BIG Difference

1,  Tick Tock: Volunteer’s Rock:  This is one of the easiest ways to give back. Volunteering for a local organization like the United Way, American Red Cross or a local nonprofit is as easy as selecting an organization you feel passionate about and spending some time helping them out. You’ll meet wonderful like-minded people and expand your network. Volunteering brings families, communities and colleagues together for the betterment of their community.

2. Take 2!! Contribute Your Talent:  Are you an artist, a musician or have a talent you can share? Nonprofit organizations are always looking for entertainment for events and programs. Whether it’s performing at a fundraising event, teaching your skills to others or donating an art piece, contributing your talent is an exceptional and worthwhile way to make a difference in your community.

3. Add it Up: Plan A Fundraiser:  Organize a bake sale, used clothing sale, garage sale or other fundraiser to raise money to support a cause you believe in. It could be an established nonprofit organization, your local food bank, a school or an individual community member with financial worries. Rally your friends together to volunteer, organize and spread the news about your fundraiser.

The more community involvement the merrier!  When communities come together to help others, there is no limit to what they can accomplish.
