‘PUBG’ Is Getting New Maps, Modes on Xbox One

By Alex Kane

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – New maps and modes are coming to “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” on Xbox One.

Additions include the Miramar battle royale map and a new alternate mode called “War.” The game’s Sanhok map, along with War Mode, will make its way to One this summer. A winter-themed map is also being teased for the end of this year.

A news release at Xbox Wire calls War “a deathmatch-style battle royale gaming experience,” which is fairly vague. It gives the impression that PUBG Corporation wants to offer a more traditional shooter game type to complement the battle royale foundation that popularized the game. The trailer also introduced the Ballistic Shield, “a new tool for setting up quick cover for explosive and close-distance attacks.”

The Electronic Entertainment Expo kicked off Sunday with the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing at 1 p.m. PT; you can watch the broadcast live here . The presser is being held at the Microsoft Theater across the street from the main event area. This year’s takes place this week, from June 12 to June 14, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Twitch’s  official coverage  of the event began in earnest Sunday afternoon.
