Post Malone Plans Nirvana Tribute for Friday Live-Stream Performance

By Chris Willman

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – Post Malone is reaching back to his roots — from before the 24-year-old star was born, that is — with plans to live-stream a performance of Nirvana covers on Friday.

The “set of Nirvana hits and fan favorites” will take place from the star’s home on his YouTube channel Friday at 6 p.m. ET/3 PT.

Posty has been known to offer his take on Kurt Cobain and company before, although performances that have been caught on fan video mostly date back to 2017, when he was playing clubs and had a different look — as seen in the rendition of “All Apologies” on YouTube, seen below, which has nearly 4 million views.

His Friday show will be a fundraiser for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. A “donate” button will appear on the top side of the screen as the performance airs live. An announcement said Google will match viewer donations “at a 2:1 rate,” up to $5 million.

The WHO’s relief fund was also the recipient of the “One World: Together at Home” all-star show put on for eight hours last Saturday. The United Nations org, which is involved in providing PPE equipment for frontline health workers, among other initiatives, has come under fire from President Trump as he seeks to cast blame for the spread of the pandemic.
