‘Mr. Robot’ to End With Season 4

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – “Mr. Robot” will end its run on USA Network after its fourths season, Variety has confirmed.
The fourth season of the award-winning drama is set to launch in 2019. There is no official word yet on how many episodes will comprise the fourth season. Seasons 1 and 3 were both 10 episodes, while Season 2 was 12.
The series stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater. It follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a cyber-security engineer who became involved in the underground hacker group fsociety after being recruited by their mysterious leader (Slater), whom he later discovered to be the projection of his dead father. Following the events of fsociety’s five/nine hack on the multi-national corporation E Corp, the series explores the consequences of the attack, the motivations of those involved and the disintegration between Elliot and Mr. Robot.
Slater has been nominated for three Golden Globe awards for his role on the show, winning the best supporting actor in a limited series award in 2016. Malek, meanwhile, has been nominated for two Golden Globes for best actor in a limited series. He also won the Emmy in 2016 for best actor in a drama series. The series as a whole has received 13 Emmy nominations to date, most recently picking up three nominations for the upcoming 2018 Emmys.
The series also stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer, Bobby Cannavale and BD Wong. The series was created by Sam Esmail, who executive produces along with Steve Golin and Chad Hamilton. Kyle Bradstreet and Joseph E. Iberti serve as co-executive producers.
In an interview for the third season finale, Esmail told Variety that the fourth season will explore a new phase of the relationship between Malek and Slater’s characters.
“We’ve explored these different stages of Elliot and Robot and his internal struggle,” he says. “Now we’re getting into that stage that this season’s about: disintegration. Next season, we’ll then start to explore what happens when they do start to integrate.”
Esmail also sent out a tweet on Wednesday morning in which he thanked fans for their support of the show.
The end of “Mr. Robot” comes as looks to retool its originals slate. The cabler recently announced the cancellation of “Shooter” after three seasons while also picking up the drama “Treadstone” to series . USA also has three more drama pilots in contention for series orders presently, which are: the Rosario Dawson-led “Briarpatch;” “Dare Me”, based on the novel by Megan Abbott; and “Erase,” created by Denis Leary and Alex Cary with Leary also playing the lead role.
