Very often media reports of the stories about the danger act of pit bulls as pets. The breed is more prone to attacking people, including children. That’s why this pet don’t have a good rep in the society.

powerful tvIn this story, there is one guy named Dan Tillery who had always dream of having a pet dog and his wish was fulfilled too. Like nothing exceptional he took it to social media posting selfies with his prized possession. But he never thought in his wildest dreams that those posts will become a reason why his adopted dog would be taken away from him.

2. A dream to have a dog at home
lifewithdogsDan and his girlfriend have always been fond of a dog. They wanted it so badly but the landlord of their rented apartment never agreed and allowed the one. Recently in an interview with the Oakland Press, Dan said, “My girlfriend and I have been wanting a dog forever, but the place we were renting would not allow dogs.
We just recently purchased our first home. All ours. And dogs are allowed.” And when the opportunity itself knocked their door they were excited to the full.
3. The new member in the home
Dan with his girlfriend soon started looking for their furry friends as they have already moved into their own house. The couple visited a shelter and there they became smitten with a dog. More to the fun was the name…Sir Wiggleton, which the shelter people have given to him. This was the entry of the star in this story.

nytOne day around the streets of Detroit, a 2-year-old American bulldog was seen wandering. Call it a coincidence that the couple also lived in Detroit. Someone saw the homeless dog and informed the local shelter about him. That shelter took the dog with them and he stayed there for few months.
Then Dan and his girlfriend visited the shelter and made a decision to bring the dog home. The new member in the home was in and Dan was on cloud nine as everything was seemingly going well. However, he had no clue that things would take a turn for the worse.
3. The Selfies over Social Media
HyperActivzDan wanted to swank with his Diggy (Dan give this name), to all his social media friends. He shared the photos of Diggy online and that is not at all anything unusual that Dan has done. However, what happened next was something much unexpected.

InstagramBefore we go to the next revelations, there are certain things famous about Diggy’s breed. Sadly, those are not positive. Pit bulls are known for their attacking nature and sometimes they have been proven fatal as well. Talking about the number, in 2016, there were 41 fatalities due to a dog attack, out of which pit bull was responsible for 22.
Such cases let the owners give up their pit bulls as there were no other choices. The breed is regarded as extremely dangerous.
6. Ready for legal consequences?
abcnewsSo, after Dan’s photo went viral and it was caught by the town police department’s eye. Soon the officers were at Dan’s house not to congratulate the man but to inform that keeping a pit bull or mixed breed with pit bull is not allowed in the Waterford Township. Dan was told that he will have to return Diggy to where he came from or else be ready to face legal consequences.
7. An Allegation quite ridiculous
Dan was not only stunned but for him it was all so ridiculous. He was very confident that the police officers didn’t intend to continue with the punishment. Being the owner Dan thought Diggy was kind and funny and he knew the authorities would also agree.
HyperActivzDan : “When they went to the gate to actually see him, he licked their face, was very kind,” He explained to the station WWJ. “They said, we’re dog lovers, that’s cool, he seems like a good boy. Took some pictures of him.”
8. Proof of innocence
Dan was prepared with the adoption papers he got at the time of Diggy adoption that stated his pet is an American Bulldog. Dan and his girlfriend were pretty sure that when these adoption papers would be shown to the officers, they would realise that they made a mistake and spare the couple with their dearly pet. But it didn’t change the mind of authorities.
“I told one of the officers that I was going to keep my dog and he gave me a citation.” The citation was actually a civil infraction which can cost up to a $500 fine.

He was so attached to his dog, in an interview Dan explained “he wakes me up every morning licking my face,” Dan said. “Every neighbor that I’ve talked to about it has wanted to come over and play with and pet Diggy.” No one could ever say that Diggy is a violent dog.
9. Three days and the punishments
Dan told the New York Post the following, “the cop said ‘you have three days to have him out of your home’.” Dan was given only three days to be with Diggy. Then, Dan needed to give Diggy back. A statement was issued by Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood saying that his department received many complaints of Diggy being in Waterford.
dailymailThat’s why he sent officers to Dan’s home, so they could inspect the animal. “The dog was presented to officers and based on their observations, it was determined the dog was part pit bull/pit bull terrier,” Underwood said.
10. Everything was against him
He had to give up his dog else he would have to pay $500, or even would’ve gotten jail time if he denies the order. Thousands heard about the story of Dan and Diggy and they felt infuriated. Supporters started organizing an online petition to help Dan keep the four-legged friend he loves.

11. Petition with little relief
By now the petition was not just for allowing Dan to keep Diggy, supporters also came with a wish to get rid of town’s rules against keeping pit bulls as pets. Restricting adoption just because of the breed of a dog was unfair and therefore they wanted the laws to be changed.

12. Dan thought winning the case would be easy
InstagramThe director of Detroit Dog Rescue, Kristina Rinaldi when heard about this news she rushed to the police station along with Dan and showed them the papers that said Diggy is an American Bulldog which is not banned under Waterford’s ordinance. Dan thought winning the case would be easy since he knew that Diggy’s breed is not what it appears to be. Dan declared on social media “My lawyer and I are going to do everything possible to make sure Diggy stays in his home with us, his family.”
13. The final day of Justice
The three days deadline got over, Dan posted a message on his Facebook, “Because Diggy still remains at his home with us, I was issued a citation today. Diggy is safe and happy. We are cooperating with the Waterford Police. All we can do now is remain hopeful that this can be resolved soon. Diggy Thanks you all for your support.”
