‘Game of Thrones’ Star Natalie Dormer Launches Production Company

By Will Thorne

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – “Game of Thrones” star Natalie Dormer is taking bigger steps into the production space.

The actor, who is also known for playing Anne Boleyn in Showtime’s “The Tudors” and Cressida in the “Hunger Games” film franchise, is launching a London-based production company called Dog Rose Productions.

The newly-formed shingle has already setup a multi-year first look deal with Fremantle to co-develop and distribute projects across a variety of genres. Dormer’s company will seek to explore stories and themes that “transcend cultures and unite us as humans.”

It was previously announced that Dog Rose was in development on a drama based on the life of legendary British actor Vivien Leigh called “Vivling,” and now the company is also working on an hour-long eight-episode series called “Spitfire Sisters” (working title) about the women of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), a group of female pilots from all over the world traveled to the U.K. to join the group and fight during World War II. The women of the ATA were tasked with flying 90 different types of aircraft from base to base ready for the frontline, and the series will deal with the themes of empowerment, friendship, love and loss.

“Spitfire Sisters” will be written by playwright and screenwriter Morgan Lloyd Malcolm.

“This is a barely known story, a thrilling story; an important story ready to be told by such a passionate voice as Morgan’s,” said Dormer in a statement.

Dormer will executive produce the series alongside Dog Rose’s Danielle Glaze-Adams who will act as the development executive on the project.
